style of whimsical, playful creations. His work has been exhibited in more than 300 solo and group exhibitions around the world. He has been awarded at London Fashion Week and is the recipient of the Golden Needle, Golden Egg, and Estonian Cultural Awards, as well as the Kristjan Raud prize.Hardwear is the world’s first collection of jewellery made out of scooter frames.They’re available in five colourways (green, purple, blue, white metal, and black) and a range of different finishes. The upcycling process preserved and enhanced the qualities of our scooters, making the collection: Ultra-lightweight. Aluminium is four times lighter than silver, making it the perfect material for everyday jewellery. The 001 model earrings weigh just five grams, while the largest 003 model bracelet weighs only 13 grams. Ultra-durable. Made of aircraft-grade, heat-treated aluminium, the pieces will remain intact even under the harshest weather conditions. They’re also resistant to tarnishing and rust. Reflective. Coated with reflective dust, selected pieces of the collection become reflective at night. Model: Jette Loona Hermanis / @hexarlequinette Styling assistant: Victoria Truuvert / @victoriatruuvert When looking at imagery from medieval times it’s surreal to think about life in such a context. With incredibly fast paced advances in technology and science perhaps it’s becoming more exciting to look at the past. Upon looking back at my life 10 or 15 years ago, it increasingly makes me realize that by comparing some imaginations we are already living in the future. So, what’s the point in only looking for inspiration in the future, when there’s a past that feels way more distant. Another question is if the return to medieval is a retaliation against the rampant flux of 80s aesthetics. On one hand it feels like searching for connection with a distant past, on another it feels like a distant fantasy. If we’re going to look for nostalgia, why not tune it to the extreme. In fashion we have constant attempts to bridge the gap between present and the future, but there is something very exciting about bringing back the more distant past in a way that doesn’t include an exploitation of nostalgia, or romanticising the imagery through movies and series. Instead, the imagination can take the direction of inventing new narratives and blurring the lines between the past and the present, presented as almost like a parallel universe where the relationship between form and function evolved differently. The new generations are claiming ownership of styles that have always felt too inaccessible. A new narrative for colliding times includes fashion from young Estonian designers, as well as garments that mostly get worn in theatres or more periodically accurate contexts. Having a strong medieval history, it often feels like the Estonian identity is growing more and more to explore that past. Whether it be though craftmanship or cinema, we see hints of returning to past values, without also abandoning modern technologies. Working around upcycling and repurposing materials, there is a sense of excess communicated through the vibrancy of it all. The set design also heavily relies on discarded material and easily accessible resources. Through this DIY and spirited approach, the series explores life as a playground to endlessly explore. In a materializing world, it can appear that we can’t live without things. With the theatrical ambience of the series we invite the decontextualized materials to have their part of the show, knowing that there is a parallel universe where they went to live a completely different reality. It results in a variety of colours and patterns clashing together in a surreal way. Long before even being aware of it, photography has been important for me as it allows me to express thoughts and feelings that I couldn’t really communicate verbally. On one level I seek to find out more about myself and create environments that make sense to me for specific thoughts and emotions. On another level I seek to create scenes that exist slightly beyond the present tense. They take place in the near future which makes them fragile and include a sense of surreality. For me, making any kind of positive change is about showing up as yourself and being as kind, smart, sincere, inclusive and transparent as possible. Ballet is a super strict, conservative and sexist form of art. On the stage of the Estonia Opera house I have to be more masculine than I really am, and I hate it. There is no space for individuality and diversity. It’s really hard, especially for the people who identify as non-binary. I am a part of this community and in my opinion it’s not possible to be who you truly are if you choose to work in the classical theatre. Music, modeling and performance art are my passions. I don’t have to compromise anything when I do it. I feel so much freedom and it’s made me understand what I really have to do with my life. I feel trapped in a human body, so I constantly try to create new skins on myself. Moving from Estonia to London has definitely made me even more open and creative. In London I have no limits. I get ideas everywhere and from everybody all the time. It’s amazing, I love it. Think I’m at home. Back in Estonia there was this judgemental ghost following me around in public. Building on ideas of community and commodification coming closer together through a feedback loop, there is a cycle becoming apparent through advertising. It constitutes reusing and recycling ideas and images. This loop of imagery also has the potential to generate predictable consumer behaviour, which makes us underestimate brand presence in our lives. Much more than that, it makes us blind towards the reflections of society that can be used as base for marketing strategies by corporations. While these bold ideas of repetition might remain in the realms of hypothesis, it is through Kööp’s images that they are brought to life, ultimately stopping the process at work and actualising the cycle. These extreme and unusual depictions of consumerism are driven by the imagining of limitless cycle of branding and rebranding. It is a state where all control has been removed from the consumers and product personality has replaced brand personality. When it comes to the perception of childhood it is argued to be an essential element. Looking back at the first 6 years of my life, which I spent in a soviet apartment, it’s hard to come to anything specific. Through those hazy distant memories it’s hard to piece together a clear image. I’ve heard stories from my parents that I thought I should clearly remember, but very few of them have sounded familiar. For this project I found use for an empty old soviet apartment in Tallinn, the similar look of them is rather fascinating to me. I could spot familiar elements here and there, but deep down I know it was very different. With the help of vintage clothing, the empty apartment becomes a space for new fictional memories to be generated. Essentially meaningless, they only live through the images, and through the photographer, who has never experienced the apartment in any other way. In this way, these images could very well reflect the stories of my early childhood, but by not being attached to anything specific, they stay afloat in my mind as a new memory, as something that represents the inacessibility of the past.
